For several dozen kilometers from Kyiv, the urban landscape gives way to old oak groves, flower fields, the banks of the Ros River, and high slopes above the Dnipro. In these places, you can spend a few hours with a thermos and a sweet treat, or plan a whole day with a walk, a gazebo, and an outdoor lunch.

Dendrological Park «Alexandria»

“Alexandria” covers more than 400 hectares on the banks of the Ros River. The park began to be created in 1788 as the residence of the Branitsky family. It was named after Alexandra Branitska.
The acquaintance with the park starts from the main entrance built in classical style. In the central part there are the “Rotunda” pavilion, the “Luna” colonnade, and the Chinese bridge.
Along the routes, you can see sculptures of Alexandra Branitska, the Virgin Mary, Diana and Apollo, the “Lion” spring, and the park structure “Ruins”. Other points include the restored Dance Pavilion and Paliy Hill, where a memorial sign to the Cossack colonel Semen Paliy is installed.
The landmarks are located in different parts of the park, so before the trip it is better to choose several main points on the map and plan a route between them.
Further away from the central alleys, ponds, meadows, ravines, and old plantings begin. A separate part of the park is an ancient oak grove.
In summer, the trees provide plenty of shade; in spring, the park is filled with fresh greenery and blossoms; and in autumn, the terrain and long perspectives of the alleys become more visible.
For a first visit, it is worth allocating at least a few hours. With children, it is more convenient to stay in the central part, walk near the ponds, and make several stops at architectural sites.
Longer routes require comfortable shoes and a supply of water.
The rules of the dendrological park prohibit making fires, swimming and sunbathing near ponds, fishing, picking flowers, climbing trees, or touching plants, sculptures, and architectural structures.
Visitors must move through the territory following signposts. You may bring water and a small snack, but resting places should be chosen so as not to damage lawns and collection plantings.

Bucha City Park

Bucha City Park was opened in 2011 for the city’s 110th anniversary. It covers 52 hectares and is located at 54 Instytutska Street. From Kyiv, it is convenient to come here for a few hours — for a walk by the water, family recreation, or a picnic with ready-made food.
From the main entrance, alleys lead to the French courtyard and rotunda. Near the entrance grows an old oak tree, one of the park’s natural landmarks. Further on, there are lakes with fountains, canals, bridges, an embankment, and open lawns. The space is complemented by marble sculptures and metal figures of fantasy film characters, which have become popular photo spots.
For children, the park has playgrounds, attractions, rope courses, and a skate park. There are also bike lanes, cafés, restrooms, and a parking area. Bicycle, scooter, and children’s car rentals, as well as some attractions, operate seasonally, so their availability should be checked before visiting.
Concerts, workshops, sports, and charity events are held in the summer theater and open areas. On weekends, the central part of the park can be crowded, so for a quieter walk it is better to come in the morning or on weekdays.
For a picnic, you can choose one of the green areas or a spot near the water without damaging lawns and plantings. Open fire should only be used in specially designated places if available at the time of visit.
Dobropark

Dobropark changes with the seasons. In spring, people come here for tulip fields; in late May and June — for peonies. In summer, lavender, hydrangeas, and ornamental grasses bloom, and the visit can be combined with relaxation near the water.
The park is located in Motyzhyn. On the territory there are food courts, children’s areas, a swimming lake, a pool complex, and green picnic lawns. Some locations operate seasonally, so before visiting it is worth checking the schedule and flowering calendar.
During the Russian occupation of Kyiv region at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Dobropark suffered destruction. After liberation, the team restored the territory and brought back the flower seasons.
You can bring food and a blanket to the park. A large part of the route goes through open areas, so on sunny days you will need water, a hat, and sun protection.
The largest number of visitors comes in spring and early summer during the main blooming seasons.
Ethnographic Complex «Ukrainian Village»

“Ukrainian Village” is located in Buzova, near the Zhytomyr highway. The complex includes an open-air museum, craft workshops, a petting area, tropical greenhouses, a restaurant, and a gazebo zone.
The museum exposition consists of six authentic houses brought from Hutsul region, Southern Ukraine, Podillia, Polissia, Central Dnipro region, and Slobozhanshchyna. Inside is a private collection of Ukrainian antiquities from the mid–late 19th century. The museum section is complemented by functioning craft workshops.
Gazebos are located in the park area of the complex. Each has a built-in barbecue, furniture, lighting, and an electrical socket. In warm seasons, there is a washbasin with supplied spring drinking water. Complexes 3B and 4B additionally include a refrigerator, microwave oven, and electric heating.
Other gazebos have a basic set of amenities, so when booking it is worth choosing according to the number of guests and required comfort. Small complexes designed for 10–15 people operate in two shifts: from 10:00 to 15:00 and from 15:30 to 21:00.
Large gazebos for groups of up to 30 people can be booked for the whole day — from 10:00 to 21:00. Additionally, you can order oak firewood, charcoal, fire starters, table service, and dishes from the restaurant menu delivered to the gazebo.
A picnic can easily be combined with a museum walk: explore the homesteads and workshops, visit the petting area or tropical greenhouses, and then return to the gazebo.
On weekends, it is better to book in advance.
Irpin Embankment
www.vartairpin.orgThe Irpin Embankment stretches along the Irpin River. There are pedestrian and bicycle paths, benches, gazebos, a playground, beach areas, and parking spaces.
During the embankment development in 2018, designated barbecue areas were created here. Open fire was allowed only within these zones. Up-to-date information about the status of all barbecue areas in 2026 is not available in official public sources. Before traveling, it is worth checking with city services which sites are currently open and available for use.
The embankment is suitable for a short rest of a few hours. You can walk along the river, cycle, or stop at a gazebo.
On warm weekends, it can be crowded, so for a quieter walk it is better to choose morning hours or weekdays.
Ecopark «Yasnohorodka»

The ecopark in Yasnohorodka started as an ostrich farm and later grew into a large suburban complex. It includes a zoo, deer enclosure, children’s park, pool complex, restaurants, food court, and overnight accommodation.
Visitors can see ostriches and other animals, walk through the zoo, visit children’s areas, or spend a few hours by the pools in warm season. Food is available in restaurants, a food court, and a grill zone.
Bringing your own food and drinks into the ecopark is prohibited. Therefore, Yasnohorodka is suitable for a full day outdoors with built-in infrastructure where food is purchased on site.
Some locations operate seasonally. Before visiting, it is worth checking the schedule of the zoo, pool complex, children’s areas, and food establishments, as well as entry conditions for each of them.
